1982 Hot Wheels Hare Splitter Malaysia Cast

The Volkswagen Golf is a compact car that has been produced by the German carmaker in eight generations since 1974. The front-engine, front-wheel-drive Golf was intended as the replacement for the Beetle and has gone on to become not only Volkswagen’s best-selling model, but among the top three best-selling models in the world. The Golf was sold in Mexico as the Volkswagen Caribe and in the U.S. as the Volkswagen Rabbit.

The Hot Wheels Hare Splitter, based on the first generation (1974-1982) Volkswagen Golf Mk1, was first released in 1979 and was produced in about 8 different variations. This super-clean example of the Malaysia-cast 1982 Hare Splitter is another of my Wichita eBay scores.

The Hot Wheels Hare Splitter features a plastic hood that opens to reveal the metal engine cast inside. However, I’m going to leave this one closed rather than risk breaking the latch.
