1973 Ford Mustang Piston Popper

When it was new, this car had a rod sticking out of one of the front wheels that caused the red pistons inside the clear engine to pop up and down as the car rolled. The blue is still nice and bright, but the pistons don’t pop anymore.

  1. It is a pity the pistons no longer pop, I remember Rola-matics from my childhood…I don’t have any now…I’s like to find this and some of the others…this was the period when Matchbox was reacting to the threat from Hot Wheels….having introduced Superfast wheels they went on to produce a lot of hot rods and fantasy cars…going away from their more traditional lines…even the trucks had Superfast wheels.

When I was a kid, I preferred the more realistic approach – that’s why I have several Tomica pocket cars from that period. But these days, I appreciate the fantasy cars a lot more. Thanks for the comment!
